Enoch Gathering: Documentário & Jantar - Suffragette, 2015
Situado em Londres, "Sufragistas" é um poderoso drama sobre um movimento de mulheres contestatárias dispostas a perder tudo na sua luta pela igualdade, segue os primeiros membros da União Social e Política das Mulheres, e a história da sua radicalização, de manifestantes pacíficas a infratoras da lei, no Reino Unido entre 1911 e 1913. Este movimento de contestação social, que culminou no direito de voto feminino e, décadas depois, nas comemorações mundiais do Dia do Trabalhador, teve as suas origens a 8 de Março, no Dia Internacional da Mulher, apenas oficializado em 1975 pela ONU, para lembrar as conquistas políticas e sociais das mulheres. Tendo sido iniciada possivelmente com uma grande passeata realizada por mulheres em 26 de Fevereiro de 1909, em Nova York, este movimento levou cerca de 15 mil mulheres a marcharam nas ruas da cidade por melhores condições de trabalho — na época, as jornadas laborais femininas chegavam a 16h por dia, seis dias por semana e, não raro, incluíam também os domingos. Paralelamente este movimento crescia também na Europa, nas fábricas. Em agosto de 1910, a alemã Clara Zetkin propôs, em reunião da Segunda Conferência Internacional das Mulheres Socialistas, a criação de uma jornada de manifestações. Mas foi a 8 de Março que a data foi instaurada, graças à onda de protestos contra a fome e a Primeira Guerra Mundial que tomaram conta da Rússia em 1917, e que acabaria levando à Revolução Russa. Inicialmente a data foi oficializada entre os soviéticos como celebração da "mulher heroica e trabalhadora".

Set in London, "Suffragettes" is a powerful drama about a movement of contestatory women willing to lose everything in their fight for equality, follows the early members of the Women's Social and Political Union, and the story of their radicalization, from peaceful protesters to lawbreakers, in the United Kingdom between 1911 and 1913. This social protest movement, which culminated in women's right to vote and, decades later, in the worldwide commemorations of Labor Day, had its origins on March 8, International Women's Day, only made official in 1975 by the UN, to remember women's political and social achievements. Possibly starting with a large march held by women on February 26, 1909, in New York, this movement led about 15,000 women to march in the streets of the city for better working conditions — at the time, women's working hours reached to 16 hours a day, six days a week and, not infrequently, also included Sundays. At the same time, this movement was also growing in Europe, in factories. In August 1910, the German Clara Zetkin proposed, at a meeting of the Second International Conference of Socialist Women, the creation of a demonstration day. But it was March 8 that the date was established, thanks to the wave of protests against famine and World War I that swept Russia in 1917, and that would eventually lead to the Russian Revolution. Initially the date was made official among the Soviets as a celebration of the "heroic and working woman".
